When it rains, the Atoll Achensee with its indoor pool and sauna is a good choice, as are the Achensee museum world, the Achensee railway and the Achensee boat service. The Vitalberg stone oil museum is worth a visit too, or a trip to the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens (about 30 minutes from Maurach). Outdoors, a walk along the lake or an easy hike still works with a rain jacket.
Great options for the whole family are an easy walk to the Gaisalm, a ride on the vintage bus to the Gramai-Alm or an alpaca trek. Add to that stand-up paddling and pedal boats on the lake, plus the climbing course at the Adventure Park Achenkirch for the braver ones.
At least 4 to 5 days — otherwise there is time neither to unwind nor to enjoy the mountains and the lake in peace. The first days are for arriving, then you want time for a mountain tour or a ski day and for the lake itself. A full week is ideal, leaving a buffer for bad weather and one day with nothing planned.
